25 Oct

Over the weekend I attended the last craft fair of the year. Only 300 people came through the doors but I made the most sales I have done. This was mostly due to the introduction of some decorated glassware I created and went down a storm.

I got to have a strange conversation with a lady whose husband had recently trimmed their bush by their house to look like a chicken and then ask me if I knew how to care for a taxadermadised tortoise…no. No I don’t.

I have a lot more ideas for glass decorations but really cannot start on any new work until I have at least tried to clear some space in my already cluttered art room. It is also really good timing to start getting a head start on your christmas shopping as I learnt on Saturday “ooo this drawing will be great for Steve for Christmas” “I don’t know, it looks a bit freaky” “Exactly! He will love it!!”

So if you want to see what glass ideas are coming up, grab yourself a bargain original art piece now and clear some space from my walls to decorate yours! Anything sold for over £10 now comes with a free random print whilst the stocks last. What could be better than that?

Chopping board galore

8 Dec

I created some one off chopping boards for my recent craft fair aiming to have more stock than I could possibly hope to sell and keep the table looking nice and full rather than empty.

This means I have a few chopping boards left over that might make someone a very nice Christmas present. All handmade by myself and one off’s.

Please head over to ebay where I am listing items whilst I spend January creating a brand new website for products and contacting me direct.

Woodland critters

13 Oct

I got busy at the weekend as I had a cute idea and I went with it. A while back I was walking past a ladies garden and she had this brilliant sized branch she was throwing away and I had to ask if I could have it. After much confusion as to why I wanted her branch I walked merrily off with it knowing I would do something but not sure what!

Fast forward and it is now cut down into lots of disks and I still had no idea what to do.

Thinking of Christmas and my craft stall I hit upon the idea of doing some wood burnt decorations with them but after a few attempts they were just tooo rough for the wood burner to get a good effect. So it was onto paint as a solution.

I wanted to do a fox and without any sketches for ideas I just went with it and the first one I painted I loved and hit upon the idea to do a gift set of 4 different hand painted woodland creature hanging disks. Three have been designed and are just awaiting a small hole to be drilled and a ribbon for hanging.

A fourth creature still needs to be created but I am thinking badger to complete the English woodlands theme.

Next effort is to figure out how best to package them for the best effect. As ever my photography skills are lacking and need a lot of work but I get too excited once I have finished something to not just take a quick phone snap!

What do you want?

9 May

Agghh where is this year going?

It has come to me that I have 6 months now to prepare for my first craft stall. I did have 11 months. I have 6. And I have no stock.

Then it came to me that part of the reason I don’t have anything decided is because I don’t know what people actually want or look for when visiting craft fairs! It’s like when I am asked what I want for dinner. This question is far too broad and I am left thinking of all the possibilities as I flick from burritos to mac and cheese to a fancy chicken and red wine jus to a microwave pizza. It’s endless. And we usually end up with humus and pitta which is less than inspiring. I don’t want humus and pitta!

I want a three course meal with champagne and after dinner chocolates with a glass of port when people come to my stall!

So I put the question to you lovely people who wonder by with what would you like to see on a craft stall where the owners main selling point starts at “Original illustrations”.

It’s broad, it’s undefined and I have 2meters of table to fill. O and its in December so CHRISTMAS!

Postcards, prints, gift boxes with special designs on, wood burnt goods such as Christmas tree decorations and chopping boards. What can you think of that I haven’t even considered? Please, throw your ideas at me, whisper them to me on the wind, write a haiku;

If that’s how you roll

Such ideas I am seeking

A banquet of thoughts!

First Christmas Commission

31 Oct

It’s a little late in the year but I have had my first Christmas Commission for a card for a financial advisor firm. Super excited and already have two designs. With and without a red nose. Only request was to not have it religious themed or overtly Christmasy, I like to think I have struck a nice balance.

Time to think up a few more ideas before going back to the client with some options and get it all out to print!
