37 Hours to go

9 Jun

The time is now really ticking down and with the second backer on board we are a step closer to seeing the kickstarter a success.

I’ve learnt a lot over the last month of taking clearer photos and getting more of a sense of self across with each design. I am not a corporation. I am a single person creating designs from my mind. Taking influence from the things I love and the place I live.

There are so many new designs floating around my head that I want to do that is why I would love to have a single place to list them all. I’ve tried etsy before but find myself losing interest as you have to fight so hard being directly compared to others that everything starts looking the same.

So if you love crochet and all things geek and nature then why not get on board early and be in the know for new designs and choose some great levels of support, each giving you plenty for your support.

You can also have a sneak peak of a few ideas from one page in the growing pile of thoughts. With more from the seven deadly sins dolls, a brave deer knight, a second Horizon Zero Dawn robot and much much more.

Please have a look at the kickstarter and I will see you over there! It would be great to have more on board to share the love of crochet and begin the next year on an exciting footing.

A weekend of makes!

20 May

I’ve been busy this weekend and created a delightful little squirrel. He’s simple and can be altered with lots of different colour combos!

With that in mind and all this pattern creations, if we reach the kickstart target everyone pledging £15 and above will receive a bonus  soft creation sent straight to them. No waiting months for something to be made, a completely surprise post!

Here is the squirrel making friends with my little storm trooper.

In other news I have also got a new parcel of wools ordered so expect some new designs featuring colours outside my usual makes!!

Patreon and Patterns

19 Apr

I have been busy this week creating pattterns for smaller items to give my mind a rest from too much hard work. You’ve seen the Grey Dwarves and I now have an army of small chickens!

All this has lead me to Patreon as a way of hopefully getting into direct contact with people and finding out what they actually want to see made and then creating patterns from there.

It’s an exciting experiment and if you want to see more of what I am creating and be part of the process then please, check me out and pledge. Even the smallest amount helps! You will have my utmost gratitude and happy thoughts for helping and maybe together we can travel a world of crochet creations.

Giraffe in a Scarf

3 Feb

Hi there!

So I said this year I will be posting items I create as a pay what you feel opportunity.

The first item being featured is a one off giraffe in a scarf necklace. I love this cosy warm little guy who is based on a larger A3 image I have drawn.

A little about him.

The pendant has been created by hand drawing the image onto shrink plastic. It was drawn about 10cm by 15cm large with the knowledge it would shrink down to roughly half that size. Pens used are ceramic pens which I find are the best tool for this type of work. Permanent markers can risk colour bleeds and smudging after the heat process and before applying the sealant coating.

How do creators cost up? When looking at costings and why it is so difficult is in the value of your time creating.

The base costs of creating this necklace lay in materials –

Shrink plastic £1 a sheet

Ceramic pens £10 a pack of 6 – divided over ink use – £1 per necklace.

Heating – always difficult to cost under £1

Necklace chain – £1

Total time to create: 3 hours – Broken down as: 2 hours drawing, 1/2 hour cutting out and heating up, 1/2 applying protective coating and attaching necklace chain.

So there you have it, all the physical items and time put into creating a one off necklace laid bare so that you know a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes of a completed item.

If you are interested in owning this little guy or interested in knowing more please do drop me an email at tragictomatoes@hotmail.co.uk.

Whilst you’re at it why not follow me on facebook to keep up to date with items that are in the making and what to look forward to coming up.

What do you want?

9 May

Agghh where is this year going?

It has come to me that I have 6 months now to prepare for my first craft stall. I did have 11 months. I have 6. And I have no stock.

Then it came to me that part of the reason I don’t have anything decided is because I don’t know what people actually want or look for when visiting craft fairs! It’s like when I am asked what I want for dinner. This question is far too broad and I am left thinking of all the possibilities as I flick from burritos to mac and cheese to a fancy chicken and red wine jus to a microwave pizza. It’s endless. And we usually end up with humus and pitta which is less than inspiring. I don’t want humus and pitta!

I want a three course meal with champagne and after dinner chocolates with a glass of port when people come to my stall!

So I put the question to you lovely people who wonder by with what would you like to see on a craft stall where the owners main selling point starts at “Original illustrations”.

It’s broad, it’s undefined and I have 2meters of table to fill. O and its in December so CHRISTMAS!

Postcards, prints, gift boxes with special designs on, wood burnt goods such as Christmas tree decorations and chopping boards. What can you think of that I haven’t even considered? Please, throw your ideas at me, whisper them to me on the wind, write a haiku;

If that’s how you roll

Such ideas I am seeking

A banquet of thoughts!

A weekend of T-shirts and printing

16 Mar

This time last year there had been snow and I had enjoyed a few days off work with no trains. I have not been so lucky this year but we have been lucky with a lot of sun so there is no excuse not to be out in the garden creating new exciting things craft wise.

There have been a few failures to get to this point with 2 failed screen printing tests, some not so great t-shirt results but they are here! Original Skull Mice t-shirts.

The first few will be going at a lower price until I can get some packaging sorted so grab yourself a bargain – An original hand screen printed t-shirt with original illustration. Currently only available direct from me either online or at Craft fair venues. £15 with free P&P for all facebook followers – http://www.facebook.com/bexonwhite. Sizes XS – XL with the fit on the slightly larger size so if you are usually a small, the XS would be suggested.

Please email me at tragictomaotes@hotmail.co.uk with any questions or requests for t-shirts.

I have also been busy putting some original drawings and bits on ebay, there are some gooduns all starting at the lowest price I can sell them to cover materials.
